What is the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety?

The International Association of Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) was founded in 1968 by a visionary group of healthcare security administrators, and has grown to be the largest association of its kind. It works to improve and professionalize security and safety in healthcare facilities through the exchange of information and experiences among healthcare security and safety executives. It promotes cooperation among the members and provides healthcare security and safety executives with current information through educational programs and publications designed to meet the challenges and complexities of protecting a modern healthcare facility.

The Boston Chapter of IAHSS was founded in 1971 by a group of such administrators who sought to provide enhanced support and professional resources to those professionals who managed Security & Safety services within Boston’s growing healthcare community.  Today, the Boston Chapter has grown to include over 90 members from over 40 organizations from all aspects of the healthcare security industry.  A rich history, combined with a diverse membership make up the foundation of the Boston Chapter IAHSS.

Among some of initiatives undertaken by IAHSS Boston include our annual Memorial Challenge Golf Tournament; held each July as a means of supporting the Edwin Stedman Scholarship – a unique initiative now in its 17th year which is meant to provide financial support for line staff and security officers employed at our member institutions; in addition to numerous educational offerings and activities.

The Boston Chapter meets monthly, in which all members are welcome to attend.  Please see our calendar of events section for more information on our next meeting location and date.  For more information about IAHSS, including membership, please visit IAHSS.org.
